For first time in 1930's, a team of scientists created a synthetic form of testosterone (the male hormone) . Later, is known that during World War II the arteficial form of the testosterone was used to help malnourished soldiers gain weight and improve performance. After the war, athletes began to use steroids to make their performance grow and to make progress in competitions for example in the 1956 Olympics, Soviet athletes, especially wrestlers, performed at exceptionally high levels.
